Thanks for the suggestion. Since my first note, I've tried the recovery
feature to no avail, now I get the dreaded error "Access priveldges in this
file have been damaged... blah blah blah". I know from experience this
means, it's hosed (Sorry Jack, I'm borrowing your lingo ;). So now I have
to wonder if an older version of FM will actually help. If it might, then
I'm willing to go through the hassle to search for it (any ideas), but
there's always the chance that I'll install FM 4.0 and get the same
message.
Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not at all clear what's happening here, but it appears that
FileMaker is confused also (version ?.??), so I don't feel so bad.

I would try first to run the FileMaker recover procedure and see if
that gives you access to the data. It won't necessarily fix all the
problems with the file, but you're abandoning that file set anyway, I
gather.
