The
FileMaker protection mechanism is basically too hard to use for most people.
Changing how it works, i.e. other than changing passwords, is really hard. I
tried to understand it enough to try and failed. You need to understand both the
FMP facilities and ebase's use of them. Version 2 fixes all these issues.
We would like to
add a password for volunteers that will allow them to view ebase but not make
any changes. We're using ebase v1.02 and have set up a password ("guest") for
every ebase folder and given that password privileges to Browse, Print &
Export records. We also set the available Filemaker commands to
None.
The problem is
that when ebase opens the names file (the first one) under this password a
message box pops up saying "This filed is not modifiable" with the only choice
being to select OK which does nothing. The rest of the files continue to load
under this message but then you can't do anything but shut down Filemaker
using ctrl+alt+del.
My guess is
this problem lies with the available Filemaker commands but there are so many
files to edit I want to have a better idea of what's going wrong. Any
help anyone can offer is appreciated.
