Under donor type I have a code for deceased - I always omit this code from any mailing list. I don't delete the person if he/she has a giving record because that would make financial reports for the period invalid. Secondly, you never know when you might need to establish that the deceased person had a history with your organization. Sometimes unhappy relatives will contest a bequest. It's happened to me.
If the donor was a couple and one passes away, I'd note the details in the memo section and continue to mail to the survivor.
