I checked the FM Pro web site and it looks to me that they have changed their donation policy.  Maybe that's why no one on this list was able to obtain a donation last year (at least we heard from no one who had).

The web site indicates that all product donations are now handled through Gifts in Kind.  I have personally have horrible experiences with this organization.  The place I worked for was burned so badly, we canceled our membership.  This was five years ago, so maybe things have changed.  At the time, we found that Gifts In Kind simply did not deliver the promised products.  I felt like they used "bait and switch" tactics - by advertising the availability of software and computer hardware to induce organizations to join, but never actually having the products available (we were told there was a waiting list - and sure enough, we were always waiting).  Everything we ever received was not as advertised- we always had to pay a fee, and I felt what we got wasn't worth it.  After being on a waiting list for a PC for over a year, we were finally offered a 286, if we drove 100 miles round trip to pick it up.  This was in 1997 when 286 computers were hopelessly out of date and no software we owned would run on it.

Sometime around this period, the Chronicle for Philanthropy ran an article about Gifts in Kind that reported many others had similar experiences.  Maybe things have changed with them since that time, I don't know. I'd certainly like to hear from folks who could tell me that they have changed.

From their website, it appears that Filemaker is no longer offering free software to nonprofits--only 40% discounts to those who purchase 10 or more units.

Questions:
1) Does anyone know if this is correct info?
2) We need to use ebase on three computers.  Can we purchase three upgrades from 4.1 (which we own) to use on the other computor must we buy the full package for each computer in order to share ebase on all three?
3) Is it possible to leave 4.1 on one computer or would the converted files not be readable?  I assume this would be a problem.

We're running ebase on ME and XP.

Thanks!
