I've done that several times, most often with a manual flag field to set which address to make primary. Once the client asked for an automatic changeover, based on a date. In all cases, I changed the existing address fields to calculations, to "use address A if the flag is true, use B if the flag is false". You have to create the two new sets of address fields first, and use the Replace command to move the existing address data into one of the new address fields so you don't lose the data when you change the existing fields to calculations. I didn't like the idea of automatic date changeover, in part because clients will tell you to send stuff to the summer address in June, July, and August, for example, and what they really mean is the first weekend of June, or Labor Day, or plans change entirely, and stuff gets delayed. And also in part, I have to admit, because it's really hard to do. You've got to define a start day and month, and an end day and month, (not FileMaker dates, because it has to work next year also). Unless it gets really complicated, you have to insist that the start day comes earlier in the year than the end date - that is, the "permanent" address has to be in effect over the turn of the year. Within those limitations, it seems to work. -- -- Dave Shaw H4 Consulting tel: 206-954-7526 fax: 206-625-1338 ------------------ Reminder to each recipient: To change your list account preferences, go to http://email.sparklist.com/scripts/lyris.pl?enter=support and enter the email address you used to subscribe to the ebase support list:: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --------------------------------------------------------------------- ebase - Relationship Management for Nonprofits, http://www.ebase.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------
