Rachel,

I'm just wrapping up a moderately involved Ebase V1.0.3 customization for a
client, and I'm still recommending to them that they stick with V.1.0.3 for
the time being.

There are several lines of thought that go into this recommendation on my
part:

1. The customized V1.0.3 database itself constitutes a substantial
improvement in data management, and it seems this will cover the continuing
needs of the organization quite well so far as the future needs for
support of organizational practices that are obvious at this time.

2. I don't feel that this client has time or the technical personnel
resources to readily accept and work with the continuing issues that would
typically arise from a relatively new major product release such as the
Ebase V2 release (I don't intend ANY slight on the good work of the
developers - software development is just SOOO complex that this seems to
happen reliably... even Microsoft, SAS, etc can't seem to do it differently
with their MASSIVE resources...) While I feel that V2 represents a VERY
meaningful improvement, I feel that a client with a good technical staff
and the patience to deal with the resolution of the issues that may still
arise would be a better candidate for early adoption.

3. I myself haven't had enough time available to understand V2 well enough
to guide a client through that transition yet. I feel that I really need
to clear out some time and really dig into V2 for a while after the product
stabilizes a bit more before I can in good conscience recommend such a move
be made with MY involvement as the primary technical lead. Again, I'd have
a different recommendation for a client with a stronger technical staff
more suitable to an "early adopter" posture...

Anyhow, that has been my own personal inclination...
