V. 2 has an essentially unlimited ability to store novel types of 
information about contacts and your interactions with them because it 
allows users to create "virtual fields" as needed.
These can be viewed on your choice of 8-10 standard layouts; if you 
needed to, you could create custom layouts.

Only if you want to store information about entities other than 
people, groups, and organizations (and their interactions) would you 
want to create a custom module for v. 2.  Modules to track info 
pertaining to events, grants, etc. are in planning now.
