I can't figure out what to say without knowing more about what 
specifically puzzles you about the import process. There is a 
detailed procedure in chapter 6 of the admin manual. Maybe you could 
start through that and ask questions about particular pieces where 
you get stopped.

If you choose a found set of payment records you are very likely to 
scramble your historical data. You will leave behind some payment 
records for people whose contact information you import. Is that 
really what you want to do. Step 3 of the import wizard lets you 
choose to import records from all your v1 names records or only a 
found set (and will bring the payment info from that found set of 
names if you choose to do that.
