I got both openvpn and vpnc working on my freerunner, at least vpnc worked once, i cannot test it now. But as others have already said, openvpn and vpnc use different protocols. Perhaps you can try that package: http://www.reitwiessner.de/openmoko/vpnc_0.5.1r275_armv4t.ipk at least it worked for me, I don't know if I had to install further (perhaps ssl) packages.
