Not the same... Mine doesn't work in 2007.2 (I gues they call it 2008.4 now) either.
I've tried three different phone stacks: gsmd (or whatever the phone stack in 2007.2/2008.4 is properly called), qtopia (both plain qtopia and several flavors of 2008.8+), and FSO. None work.
