some users seem to have problems with some hardware after 0.7X...
try installing a version around 0.67 to 0.69... you could try upgrading afterwards, but if you don't need the new features wait for some more bug fixes...

I have had this issue lots on two or three boxes since 0.48
I just work around it. Dell 2600, and a custom via chipset board as well

It seems that when you reinstall from cd and upgrade again normally it
does not happen.

I know it sounds stupid but hey I've tried kicking the computers but
that does not seem to work either.

0.64.8 seems very stable at the moment. I would not go anywhere else on
funny hardware.

Subject: [pfSense Support] Pfsense unable to boot from hard drive

Hi!

After a few days of continuous operation, my pfsense
box was unable to reboot displaying these last lines
on screen:

Can't work out which disk we are booting from.
Guessed BIOS device 0xffffffff not found by probes,
defaulting to disk0:

The system just hangs after these messages.

I am using the installer from 0.68.12 iso and upgraded
to 0.76.2.

I ran into this problem twice already.

Thank you for some enlightenment on this matter.

Miles
