Yes, that is the issue, there are no OpenVPN messages being sent to my syslog server.

Sorry, but my knowledge with Unix/BSD isn't that great. How do I apply the patch?

Not sure what you mean by 'no syslog'.
You mean you cannot get openvpn log entries on a remote syslog server? If that's your case (as was mine) please look at http://cvstrac.pfsense.com/tktview?tn=1034

If you can, try the patch I attached to that ticket, and report back.
