I wrote the following on 08/13/2006 10:05 PM:
Okay, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. When I went to
reinstall, pkg_mgr.php reported that is was "Unable to retrieve
package info from www.pfsense.com. Cached data will be used." I
reinstalled Squid, apparently from cache, and it was nowhere to be
found in the Services menu (but it remained to be listed in
pkg_mgr_installed.php). So, I cleared the configuration from
config.xml, removed /tmp/rules.debug and tried installing again.
Still a no go -- nothing on the Services menu, and this time, it
doesn't appear in pkg_mgr_installed.php. Any ideas?
Now that pfsense.com seems to be back online (what happened?!?), I
have been able to reinstall Squid. However, there are some sites I
need to use for work that simply refuse to work through a proxy, so I
need occasionally to disable Squid. Well, I just tried stopping the
Squid service an everything freaked out again -- the webgui totally
stopped responding. Both the webgui and my ability to browse the
Internet were completely cut off. The outage again lasted about 3
minutes, seemed to only affect http access (my SSH connection to a
host outside of my network was unaffected), and then everything
returned back to normal. I was finally able to stop the Squid service.
Now I can't get the service to restart. Let me know what, if anything,
I can do to help.
