I realize pfsense isn't SMP-capable

err, I'm surprised Scott and/or Bill didn't say this (unless I'm missing something...), but SMP *is* in the pfsense default kernel. from http://cvs.pfsense.com/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/tools/builder_scripts/conf/pfSense.6?rev=1.32;content-type=text%2Fplain

# To make an SMP kernel, the next two lines are needed
options SMP # Symmetric MultiProcessor Kernel
device apic # I/O APIC

pfsense may or may not work well on this particular hardware, depending on how well FreeBSD 6.1 supports it. If you're looking at buying a new system, I'd google it first to see what kind of experiences people have had with that hardware and FreeBSD.
