That is great news on the 1.3 version. Should I put the request
into the feature request section or is everyone already on board with
the integration into 1.3? BTW, I'd be glad to do some testing on this
as I have a large IPSec deployment and pleanty on test tunnels.

1.2 has been feature-frozen for a while now and it's too close to
release to make any changes, so not in it. I'll be pushing to see it
in
1.3 though.
