Hi,

I am having a weird problem where my SYNC (OPT1) interface is showing no
carrier, and the lights on the NIC are off (though each side of the SYNC
link will blink every couple of seconds, and they are in fact connected with
a working crossover cable.

Background info: My setup is pretty much exactly what they show in the CARP
tutorial:
http://pfsense.untouchable.net/tutorials/carp/carp-cluster-new.htm
I have two 4 NIC interfaces on each of 2 firewall boxes, with a public WAN
switch, and a private LAN switch. And my IPs are pretty similar to the
tutorial (and triple-checked for accuracy), not that I think it matters
because this seems to be a layer 1 or 2 problem.

I did have the setup up and working the night before, but shut it down and
started it up then changed the IPs on each interface to work on my network
better. After this interface change (and all other areas that needed to be
changed (IE: virtual IPs and CARP settings), my SYNC interface seems to not
be seeing a connection. The odd thing about it is firewall1 is showing both
MASTER on the carp status page, and firewall2 is showing both BACKUP
accurately. Though when I try to update a rule I get a "[sync settings]A
communications error occurred while attempting a XML RPC with..." error.

Not to mention the lights are not going up for the link between the
interfaces, though it's on a PCI NIC with dual adapters (in port 0) and if I
move either one of the ends of the crossover cable into port 1 instead of
port0 the link connection lights go on, so it's not the cable, it seems as
though pfsense is blocking the interfaces, though why? And how can I get it
to stop blocking the interface?

Any help would be appreciated! This has been confusing me for a couple days
now.

Thanks!

Shane
