I'm trying to set up a fault-tolerant LAN captive portal and am running into some odd issues. During setup, CARP works perfectly - virtual services, routing, etc. all float seamlessly. However, when I turn on the Captive Portal the gateways stop talking to each other on their LAN interface (the same one CP is configured for). I can ARP the virtual, but cannot ping it any more or access any of the services on it - neither of the gateways' LAN interfaces will can communicate either. I have an any/any allow+log rule on the LAN, but am not seeing any traffic. In addition, the backup host goes to 'MASTER' on it's the VIP indicating a split-brain condition, even though they are still capable of communicating via their failover link. Disabling CP immediately drops the secondary back to 'BACKUP' and the virtual continues to operate as before.
At first, I thought this was an artifact of my jumping back and forth between 1.2-RC3 snapshots (up to 11/06) and the RC2 release, but just today with a CD-clean install I'm still seeing it. Any ideas why this would be happening? Any hope for the wicked?
