You should get an ALIX (or an old WRAP) or a Soekris.
I just looked and it seems the local-loop monopoly here (in
Switzerland) can now provide me with a 20MBit downstream (I'm on a
5000/200 line, currently).
That's about what my WRAP can handle - at least, that's what various
postings in the forum and on this list suggest.
(It's also roughly 1000 times the bandwidth of the modem I started to
go online with from home, 13 years ago....)
If you've really got even more bandwidth (FTTP, or VDSL maybe?), then
replace the hard-drive with a silent laptop-drive, or even a microdrive.
