Yep, hence I suppose I should have phrased the question along the lines of 
"whether it'd be possible to team vr0 and vr1 together on the LAN interface". 
I'd imagine it's more of a question of whether the underlying FBSD system has 
such support, or whether extra packages would need to be added.

So, are you saying that with adapter teaming there should be no need to use STP 
on the switches at all? I was under the impression that linux's adapter teaming 
could be combined with port aggregation on a switch to provide extra bandwidth 
(i.e. pair of gigabit connections to the switch), or to provide failover (into 
2 separate switches), but if you want to combine the 2, STP was required on the 
switches?

I'll freely admit this is way outside my normal areas of expertise, I'm 
learning as I go here :-)
