Hello, I've been digging around the new website and the devwiki wiki but can't find much on load balancing. I can only get 1.7Mbps/500kbps ADSL connection in my area, and want to increase capacity. (leased line is not at option)

I'd like to get a 2nd 1.7Mbps/500kbps ADSL fitted. (IP options are either single IP, No-NAT8 or no-NAT16)

One PfSense Firewall, Four NIC
NIC1 - WAN1 - ADSL 1
NIC2 - WAN2 - ADSL 2
NIC3 - LAN - NAT to small office of computers & exchange server
NIC 4 - DMZ for FTP Server (we can use a real ip for this)

On a single ADSL connection, when customers are uploading/downloading files to our FTP server this dramatically slows http/smtp. We don't want our FTP to be external, as we don't want to waiting for uploading/downloading

I have two ideas in my head about how loading balancing might help

1.
All traffic is split across the two lines, and use traffic shaping to control things a little. - but what happening if I have two customers ftp'ing- will both of my lines be busy, and http/smtp will still be slow.
2.
Prioritise http/smtp to ADSL1 and Prioritise FTP. The more external ftp sessions, then the busier/slower WAN2 gets without effecting http/smtp on WAN1 If WAN2 is not being used (no ftp's) can be using that as overflow for WAN1 (http/smtp)

As you can see, I'm getting confused. If anyone knows of any documentation on this, any any ideas that might help me, then all will be greatly appreciated.

Paul
