Hi,
can anybody recommend a switch (8 port or so) that is VLAN capable (and
the VLANs actually work with pfSense)?
It's mainly for home use (I need a new one), so I'm not sure if I want
to afford myself a real Cisco switch (but it would be nice to practice a
little with IOS).
Gigabit would be a plus, though it will mostly be used to connect PCs in
a wireless "island".
So FastEthernet is probably enough.
And it should be fan-less.
I've got enough fans in enough other devices, thank you
Pretty sure these are fanless: (The 1800's are 'web-managed' version, so long
have limited configuration)
HP1800-24G (J9028B)
HP1800-8G (J9029A)

HP2510-24 (J9019B) - Rev A was defo fanless, I think B version is also.
HP2510-48 (J9020A) - 48 Port is NOT fanless - used it about 2 weeks ago

This MiLAN (aka Transition Networks) switch is also fanless:
SM800P

All of the above I've used in anger.
If you care about your network forget about the cheap stuff (Netgear), it
always bites.
Hope this helps
