Use the HP procurve 1800-8g. I use it at our office for the conference room
with multiple vlans trunked to a pfSense. Works fine, is gigabit and fanless
:-) It's around 120 euro. Btw, I got myself a 1800-24g for home which is
basically the same switch with 24 ports and options for 2 minigbics. Fanless as
well :-)

Any switch that supports VLANs with 802.1q trunking (when properly
configured) will work with pfSense. I've used multiple Cisco, HP, Netgear, 3Com
and possibly others I don't recall without any problems.

Cisco is out then. As are every other managed rack mountable switch I've ever
seen. The HP models mentioned in this thread are nice, but nowhere near silent.
The best fanless, managed gigabit switch I've seen is a Netgear GS108T.
Actually it's the *only* managed fanless gigabit switch I've ever seen. :)
Low price, and works well.
