Hi,
when I started with DSL, back in December 2001 (IIRC), I got, together
with a splitter, one of these boxes:

(first picture, of the article on the right).

I used it together with my Netgear MR314 router for over three years,
before moving to Switzerland.
There, I used (and still use) a (company-provided) device from 3com that
seems to have several modes and one of them is just acting as a bridge
for my router (first the trusted old MR314, then a WRAP and now an ALIX
- I never got the 3com device to work as a full DSL-router, though it
seems it could work).
Anyway, now that I have a spare WRAP, I wanted to use it at my parents
home - but I forgot that their currently used router (Draytek from 2003)
already has the above device built in.
What do people in Germany use as "DSL-modem". Is there something small
that is easy to hide and doesn't consume too much energy?
Could it be integrated into the WRAP somehow, in the same way the
Draytek-Router has it included?
I would really like to avoid using the old Draytek as a bridge (or even
buying a new, full-blown wireless router) for that purpose - both for
cost-reasons and because I can hardly explain to my parents that, where
previously there was one device they now need two devices...
The reason I want to exchange the old router at all is that its
wireless-signal is a bit too weak - the iMac in the 1st floor gets a bad
reception and sometimes even loses it completely.
Hopefully, this wasn't too confused and somebody can follow-up with some
advice ;-)
cheers,
Rainer
