When I setup my bridge a few weeks ago, I noticed that the bridge
interfaces have STP enabled by default.  This created a temporary
headache until I figured it out ;)

For note, the stp protocol will have to be enabled/disabled on the
individual interfaces, not the bridge interface itself.

Also if you will be creating multiple bridges for multiple vlans,
something like mstp may be a better option for you.

Here is the script hack that some people use as an alternative to STP.

For STP, check the FreeBSD if_bridge man page, and look at the bridge
setup code in /etc/inc/interfaces.inc.
