Agreed. Why have a low power CPU consuming 15 watts when your chipset is using 2-3x or more than that? It's a bit funny if you look at Intel's D945GCLF2 motherboard... there is a little dinky heatsink for the CPU and a larger heatsink with a fan for the chipset. That seems a bit backwards. In regards to alternate arch's, wouldn't something like ARM or MIPS provider better PPS rates than x86(_64)? I'm not saying x86 is useless or unusable in any way, but obviously you'll hit a ceiling with x86 that can be blown away by something better purposed like a dedicated ASIC or possibly another arch.
