Has anyone seen what appears to be excessive CPU utilization on the
ALIX hardware when it's virtually idle?
I have an ALIX 2d3 running a full install of 1.2.3-RC2 on some
industrial CF. When it's passing very little traffic (~150pps,
~600kbps) I'm seeing an average of about 15% CPU usage. This appears
regardless of polling, and top indicates that it's about half user and
system time. What's puzzling to me is that the 6-7% 'user' time
doesn't seem to be attributable to any process. top -S shows every
process virtually idle, yet somehow up to 10% of the utilization is
user time.
Interrupt time is low, and counts by 'vmstat -i' don't seem excessive.
System time is low. I'm not really running any packages on this box
and no VPN either, it's just doing basic NAT and load
balancing/failover with a few VLANs. Not even QoS is enabled.
Now I'm not having any problem with this box, it seems to perform fine
with my 25mbit WAN and has been very stable for 6 months or so, but it
concerns me that CPU usage is so high. Anyone else seen this or can
suggest a way to discover what this CPU time is actually going to? top
-S -I lists only 'idle: 85%' almost all of the time.
Thanks
