It depends on where you start from and how you are updating. Auto update was broken up until around May 18th. If you are coming from before then, you may need to do a console update by URL for full installs, or a manual firmware upload (for NanoBSD or full). After that date, auto update works fine on full installs. Shortly after then I got auto update working fully for NanoBSD as well. Snapshots aren't signed, so go to the updates tab and check the box to ignore signing, and/or pick the snapshots url from the drop-down list. If you specify a custom update URL, the signing check is automatically ignored.
