Question #35521 on pidgin in ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+question/35521
Status: Open => Answered
Theodotos Andreou proposed the following answer:
Please check if you have any firewall enabled. From console type
"iptables -L". If you get something different than:
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
then a firewall is activated. Disable (temporarily) the firewall by
running "iptables -F"
If you suspect it is a problem of pidgin try to use another client like
kopete and see if that one works.
