My suggestion is to use modern ways of software distribution:
 - bittorrent
 - ed2k
 - Dijjer (zero setup on server side, HTTP compatible for people trapped
benihd firewalls)

I just tried to download pidgin 2.5.4:
 - the first mirror was very slow
 - the second did not respond
 - the third reported a 404 error
 - the foutrth finally worked

Let's move into the 21th century, please.
