I'm not a dev, but one thing to ask, does
AIM work while at work? They might have the ports/protocol blocked.
Try changing the port to 80, it might help if that's the case. You
might want to try upgrading to, idk if 2.5.5 might help fix it.

I use the following: Sametime, AIM, MSN, Google chat, IRC and Yahoo to
varying degrees.
When I bring my laptop home and connect to my office via the VPN, I can
connect to everything
except AIM.
