Matthew,

In order to change your password, you need to do so with the service 
provider.  Pidgin is simply the application.  Any password changes you 
make to your accounts, you also will have to make with the service (AIM 
with http://aim.com, Yahoo! with http://yahoo.com etc etc).  Changing 
the password within Pidgin will not actually change the password for the 
account.
