This has been mentioned previously on the list and there is an active
ticket. This is assuming you're running windows, though you didn't

Hi,
after install, pidging won't flash window when new message is
received. Only icon in the toolbar will flash. It's a small but, but
makes it VERY hard to use Pidgin effectively and therefor a big bug.
Tried changing settings many times and re-insttall. Nothing!
