Your problem is with GnuTLS SSL support, but the RPMs we provide do NOT
use GnuTLS for SSL support - you must be running a different pidgin
binary than the one installed from the RPMs, you should find that by
running:
which pidgin
and then remove it and any related libpurple (it is probably installed
in /usr/local).
The pidgin binary installed in the RPM is at /usr/bin/pidgin - you can
also try running that using the full path.
