Pidgin 2.8.0 eating up CPU resources

I upgraded Pidgin to 2.8.0. I noticed (very fast) that the CPU resources 
with Pidgin 2.8.0 running around 50% where it normally was running less 
than 10%. I want to backoff to version 2.7.11 (I didn't keep the older 
release). Is there instructions for backing off, and where is the older 
release.
