According to that, and assuming only the most recent MSNP change is the
problem, the answer is 2.7.5.
(Note that I don't know, offhand, that only the most recent MSNP change
was the issue, but if not you should be able to track it back from there.)

I have compiled from the source and installed 2.7.5...
It's confirmed: On pre-MSNP16 versions of pidgin, everything works fine
again on MSN protocol:
- File Transfers (both sides);
- Custom emoticons;
- Display images;
- Etc.
