This is normal and expected. Google Talk uses the XMPP protocol behind the scenes. I think there is one other change you'll need to make: on the Advanced tab set Connect server to talk.l.google.com You can avoid this step by having the utah.gov DNS administrator add appropriate DNS SRV records for XMPP.
