Sounds like a bug. What configure flags are you using? I'm assuming the
system has X Windows installed?
The flags are
--enable-vv --disable-screensaver --disable-gtkspell --disable-avahi
--disable-perl
As to X Windows I have xorg and xauth packages installed, these should
provide functionality of X11
