I know it's been a while but I still have this issue.
I have looked in that theme control and it's a bit odd. Conversation Entry
changes the font I type... Conversation History for whatever reason just
changes the size of my name in the text window, neither seem to be simply
changing what the font looks like in my window as opposed to say, what it
appears like in the text log, or who I'm speaking to.

You can use the "Pidgin GTK+ Theme Control" plugin in Tools->Plugins to change
the font size. In the Fonts tab you can override the "Conversation Entry" and
"Conversation History" fonts to adjust the size. Have a play with the other
settings too and see if you can get things to look the way you want.

set the font to be -25% magnified on my end, this way the font would look
correct to me and not be super small to the people I messaged.
Does Pidgin have any such setting?
