The only difference I'm seeing here between Trillian and Pidgin is the xmlns
not being sent by Trillian

<message type='chat' id='purplec74f15d0'
to='[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>'>
<composing xmlns='http://jabber.org/protocol/chatstates'/>
</message>
<message from='[email protected]/Work<http://[email protected]/Work>'
to='[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>' type='chat' id='purplec74f15d0'>
<composing xmlns='http://jabber.org/protocol/chatstates'/>
</message>

I'm not familiar with the XMPP XEP's to know if the xmlns is required but
http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0085.html suggests it might be? Oh, although it
looks like Trillian is using https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0022.html for
<composing /> instead?

I'm going to cc the development mailing list in case someone else has an idea

The debug log is below, showing that Trillian is sending the composing signal.

I currently have no plugins enabled in Pidgin

Can you get a debug log (from the buddy list, Help->Debug Window) while someone
is typing to you?

Also, do you have any plugins enabled that might hide typing notifications
within Pidgin, eg, using the Pidgin GTK+ Theme Control plugin to disable them?

Cheers,
Eion

When a Trillian user types an IM to a Pidgin user, the Pidgin user does not see
typing notification (composing).

This is going through an internal XMPP server using Prosody software.

I have contacted Trillian and Prosody and they have not found a problem.

Is this a known problem with a solution?

If so, how can I fix?
