Hi Daniel, If it's an XMPP server, then you can use the "XMPP Ignore Groups" plugin that will give an option to the account to override the server-side buddy grouping. You should be able to find it on the third party plugins wiki page at https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins
