Hi Richard, What kind of features are you looking for in a new protocol? Or probably more importantly, what are you friends/family/colleagues using?
Have you tried going through https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins#AdditionalProtocols to see if there's any other protocols that your contacts use instead?
