Hi Brittany, Are you able to take a screenshot of the 'Modify Account' window for your gtalk connection, just to check usernames/domains/etc. Are the other contacts on your gtalk buddy list using gtalk as well, or are they on other servers?
Also, are you using the XMPP(GTalk) support that's baked-in to Pidgin or using the Hangouts plugin?
