Wikipedia seems to agree, The current Mac operating system is macOS, originally named "Mac OS X" until 2012 and then "OS X" until 2016.
I guess you can work out how old that page is on the pidgin.im site :) The support mailing list probably isn't the right place to discuss that, since it's not really a support issue.
