The first public beta of Audition for the Mac is now available - see the

So Adobe has rewritten Audition to make it cross-platform. Apparently one
thing they've done on the way is to make it fully multi-channel, and it has
been seen to work on 80-channel files. Read here:

I don't have a Mac to see if this is already exposed - but I discovered
last night that one of my sons has been testing it for Adobe, so I may try
to fix up a visit to his studio to investigate (he doesn't have any kind of
surround facilities, though, that I'm aware of). Meanwhile, I guess some
Macheads on this list might be tempted to have a look...
