More importantly, are there competing bidders on this list? If someone want to get hold of this for historical reasons rather than as a personal possession, care needs to be taken that list members don't force the price up between them by constantly counter-bidding. If no-one else is interested, I may consider bidding with a view to finding a way for this to be preserved somehow. It's a shame that the plexiglass clamp isn't part of the sale, but I'm sure one could be fabricated.
My concern is that many on this list are at academic institutions and may take a break from their email over the weekend. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on the auction and see how it progresses. If the price goes past my limit, which it's not far off now, I'm afraid it'll go elsewhere.
