Just a thought:

Five at UKL150 gives you ULK750, which is more or less the price of a CoreSound
TetraMic plus the adaptors. Then you can decode to pretty much what output
geometry you want, plus the fact that the current draw from the Tetra is going
to be rather less than from five of the Rode mics, thus saving you battery
power on the DR-680

If that doesn't appeal, then how about the Rode NT6? more expensive, but it
gives you a smaller mic head, therefore less clumsy mounting possibilities. It
also has a switchable HPF and a 10 dB pad.

If you want to go more super-cardioid, there's also the Sennheiser E614 at
about ULK150/unit or if you don't mind a bulkier package, the Rode NT3, which
can also be powered from an internal 9v battery.

At the bottom end of the range, there's a multitude of Chinese units for around
UKL50 that could probably best be described as disposable, but places like
Thomann offer 'matched pairs' which should at least mean that someone has
listened to them at some point.

Regards,

John
