Does any one know if somethings like this exists for MAX/MSP?

Thanks,
Anthony

Hi,

There have been several things over the years.

The first was Spat~ from Ircam, a whole load of Max/MSP objects to do ambisonics, binaural and other spatial sound processing. Some high level objects which incorporated reverb, and which made modest computers of the time slow to a crawl when trying to use more than one or two instances. A lot of more basic objects which worked, but the documentation didn't explain them and inputs and outputs were unlabelled, so you had to play around a lot to understand what they did and how to control them.

They were only available by subscribing annually to Ircam, and after a few years I couldn't really justify the expense and decided to build my own from scratch in Max/MSP. At least then you know what is going on inside, can tailor it to what you are trying to do, and modify it in the light of better knowledge. I thought about turning them into a 'toolkit', but decided to try and make a whole application that could handle multiple inputs and outputs, with a global reverb.

When I visited Ircam some 6 years back they said that they were planning to overhaul the lot and improve the documentation, but I don't know whether this happened. I suspect that a lot of it went into Spat and Verb from Flux plug-ins.

There's a good set of Max objects by ICST

And another set by Graham Wakefield, dated 2006 and they look like Max 4. Possibly still work in Max 5 or 6.

There are also ambisonic and other spatial audio processors as part of Jamoma.

I've never really investigated any of these, though I have heard of several people using the ICST ones.

Hello All,

On the behalf of the Ambisonic Toolkit's development team, I'm pleased to announce the Ambisonic Toolkit v1.0.0 library for SuperCollider3 has been
released and is now available for download and installation:

NOTE: The Ambisonic Toolkit requires SuperCollider version 3.5.

-----------
The Ambisonic Toolkit (ATK) brings together a number of classic and novel tools for the artist working with Ambisonic surround sound. The toolset in intended to be both ergonomic and comprehensive, framed so that the user is
enabled to ?think Ambisonic?. By this, the ATK addresses the holistic
problem of creatively controlling a complete soundfield, facilitating
spatial composition beyond simple placement of sounds in a sound- scene. The artist is empowered to address the impression and imaging of a soundfield ?taking advantage of the native soundfield-kernel paradigm the Ambisonic
technique presents.

Along with powerful soundfield transforms?the spatial filtering tools
enabling soundfield-kernel reshaping?the ATK provides a comprehensive set
of Ambisonic encoders (including pseudo-inverse) and decoders (5.1,
binaural, UHJ, full-3D) allowing users to thoroughly leverage the power of
the Ambisonic technique.

-----------
The SuperCollider3 version of the Ambisonic Toolkit (ATK) is free
software, and is published under the GPLv3 free software license.

-----------
We welcome contributions that help make the ATK a comprehensive solution for artists and musicians. If you are interested in contributing to the
codebase and becoming an ATK developer, please join the community.

-----------
Also of note, we'll presenting the ATK at two upcoming events:

25th AES UK Conference: Spatial Audio in Today?s 3D World
