I'm a bit concerned now, as I would not know for sure if eight

accurately as in "don't lose any sleep over selling full-price tickets", yes.

Accordingly to what you wrote, it doesn't really matter in Ambisonics
if I place the loudspeakers at 6, 8 or 10 meters diameter... (as long
as the loudspeakers are powerful enough). Is that correct?

not quite. like i said before, it can be useful to place the loudspeakers further away, because that evens out the SPL across the listening area.

basically, there are two constraints for loudspeaker distance:
a) horizontal coverage angle - even a very wide speaker will have trouble covering more than 100° without significant coloration. so don't move them in too close. there is an illustration of this problem in http://stackingdwarves.net/public_stuff/linux_audio/ambisonic_symposium_2011/AmbiSym2011-Nettingsmeier-Dohrmann_Large-scale_HOA_Systems.pdf

b) room reverberation - some reverb can be nice, but if the speakers are too far away, you will get mostly diffuse field without much localisation.

Do you have any suggestions? How differently would you do?

start with a speaker radius that is 1.5 times the speaker radius, a bit more if the room is large enough.
