And I well remember an auditory illusion demonstrated to me by Jeff Bloom and Mike Greenhough at University College, Cardiff in the positively palaeolithic days when I was just starting out in this field (around 1970- 1973) whereby a notch filter with a changing centre frequency in the mid to upper audio range applied to a white noise source would cause the apparent source position to move up and down. If I remember correctly this was also on the AES "Auditory Illusions" recording that was distributed withe the Journal a few years later and it was also covered in JAES Volume 25 Issue 9 pp. 560-565; September 1977 in the paper by Jeff Bloom "Creating Source Elevation Illusions by Spectral Manipulation"
