For clarification:

As of May 2016, YouTube supports spatial audio on Android. Support for
other platforms is in development.
YouTube Android currently supports first-order ambisonics (4 channels
of audio). It will support higher-order ambisonics (9+ channels of
audio) in the future.

It actually does make some sense to use AmbiX (even) at 1st order if the
extension to HOA is already planned, or even "work in progress".
I also notice that at least one Google developper is onlist. So, welcome
to surround sound, and to the world of sound fields and (future) light
fields.

P.S.: Sound and light fields seem to be a quite fashionable topic "over"
at Mpeg, too.
I am not so sure if the audio and picture/video field cases are (more or
less) similar. But you can impress a lot of people if you are able to
talk about "all these fields", "holograms", and whatever else will sound
impressing and competent.
I just did it, too! (See above...) The secret is in the buzzword(s).
Use the (PR) power of the < field >, not of the worn out < cloud >!
